It is almost insoluble in water (about 5 ‰), but is soluble in ethanol, acetic acid, ethyl ester, aether and vegetable oil, lard, and so on. Tert-butyl hydroquinone plays the role of antisepsis for most of the oils, especially vegetable oil.
